This Blog Post is focused on an episode of the Podcast “Not Overthinking”, in which Taimur and Ali discuss whether Children are not treated like people.

Introduction

The section in which Ali and Taimur discusses whether children are treated like people or not really gripped me so I thought I’d share my thoughts on the idea. This Blog Post may not be as productive to your life compared to the content you may find out there. If you want to consume content that will add value to your life, I recommend any piece of content from Ali Abdaal and Matt D’Avella. With that being said I hope you enjoy.

Main Bulk

Taimur Abdaal starts with the point that when the normally think about people we have the ground level rules of respect ect ect. He continues to say that it would be unacceptable to say to a group of Hispanic people that you don’t like them because they are Hispanic, yet is is socially acceptable that you don’t like children because they are children. I have never actually thought about this before and it’s actually true. I know that sometimes parents would say this in a joking manner, but if you said that you didn’t like Hispanics in the same context, it would be deemed as unacceptable. There may be some arrogance with parents and they think that they are above their children. In some respects they are. One example could be that they do have authority over their children. However if you are a parent surely you should be teaching your children the correct morals and how to respect everyone. I’m not sure why it is socially acceptable to disrespect children like this.

Another point is raised later in the video which is related to lying around children. One prime example is Santa. I know that the essence of Santa at Christmas is pretty exciting but when you think about it, you are lying to them. There will come a day when they find out that Santa is not real. I suppose because children have a lot more access to the internet now that they can find out pretty early.

These two major points that have been raised could make children feel pretty inferior.
